Dezmond’s commitment to social justice was first cemented in 2010 when he and a group of several friends started cop watching to record police interactions and to discourage misconduct through transparency. While receiving a BA in Environmental Biology from Columbia University and afterward, he's worked with several organizations devoted to disrupting mass incarceration and criminal (in)justice systems through education and direct action. His organizing work has been deeply informed by ongoing indigenous struggles against colonization and extractive capitalism. He is overwhelmingly excited for the coming futures where connection and reciprocity are valued over wealth and exploitation and where people and the planet are valued over property.
